System Development
The AQUINAS System has been under development by Science Horizons for almost twenty years. Its development is now complete, a design described in detail in the AQUINAS System section of this website. Leading-edge technical accomplishments that allowed the system to be successfully installed and certified include:
- Real-time, error-free data acquisition on a UNIX Workstation (1986)
- An array/network controller that provides error-free, point-to-multipoint and multidrop intrasite communication (1992)
- The development of a 24-bit digitizer for emplacement in four-inch boreholes (1995)
- Remote command and control of the AQUINAS System, including the ability to remotely determine the status of the data logger via a random binary calibration (1996)
- Command authentication and verification (1999)
- Data authentication in the borehole using a Fortezza card (2000)
- Remote key management (2000)
- Hot Backup software linking two workstations for continuous data availability in the presence of a hardware or software failure of the primary workstation (2001)
- Data collection software that provides remote data acquisition and remote command and control of the system via a graphical user interface (2002)
- Implementation, integration, and system testing of the CD1.1 protocol in the Station Processor (2002)
- Availability of a team for complete system installation and training of the customer's personnel for system operation and maintenance
- Submitted an application to the US Patent Office to protect SHI's use of seismic arrays for earthquake prediction (2002)
- Complete re-design of the Communications Interface Module -- the CIM3 (2004)
- Developed the Portable AQUINAS System: a small, transportable, battery-powered seismic sensor system (2006)
- Implementation, integration, and system testing of the CD1.1 protocol in the Data Collection Center (2007)
The corporate value “One data frame lost is one too many” has successfully guided Science Horizons through the past nineteen years of AQUINAS System development. The company is dedicated to upholding this value in all future system improvements and modifications.
